Choosing a site

Three main factors need to be considered when choosing a site for the garden – sunlight, water and soil. Choose an area that catches six or more hours of sunlight per day. Most vegetables perform best when in full sun. Having a reliable water source nearby comes in handy from seeding and planting through the hot, dry spells of summer. When summer storms erupt, wind protection is provided if the garden is located relatively near buildings or natural windbreaks. Well-drained soils aid in the prevention of plant diseases during wet spells. A garden plotted on flat or gently sloping land avoids soil erosion. Taking these factors into consideration will yield results!
